Frequently Asked Questions

The following section contains frequently asked questions related to the Bentley Map Mobile Publisher and Bentley Map Mobile Converter applications.:

What are the key differences between the Bentley Map Mobile Converter and Bentley Map Mobile Publisher applications?

The Bentley Map Mobile Publisher application was primarily designed for interactive use in a Bentley Map session, providing a simple user interface to select feature classes, set searchable business properties, and define display order for a single output Bentley Map Mobile i-model. Although the Bentley Map Mobile Publisher settings can be saved and reused later, the primary intent is to provide an interactive tool to publish Bentley Map Mobile i-models from the data loaded in the session, similar to common PDF printing processes.

By contrast, the Bentley Map Mobile Converter application was designed with high-performance, scalability, automation and extensive configuration capabilities as the primary objectives. As a command line tool, use of the Bentley Map Mobile Converter can be scripted in batch files to automate the recurring production of Bentley Map Mobile i-models. Please refer to the "Functional Matrix" section for more information.

What advantages does the Bentley Map Mobile Converter offer in the production of Bentley Map Mobile i-models?

By providing a 64-bit command line tool that runs in a Windows command shell, the Bentley Map Mobile Converter removes the 32-bit memory limitations of Bentley Map, allowing users to convert 10s, 100s or even 1,000s of design files into a single Bentley Map Mobile i-model containing tens of thousands or even millions of infrastructure assets. With "Custom Configuration Files" capabilities, well beyond that of the Bentley Map Mobile Publisher application, the Bentley Map Mobile Converter offers organizations more ways to refine the Bentley Map Mobile i-model output.

Can the Bentley Map Mobile Converter detect changes in my data over time?

Yes. As source input data changes over time, the Bentley Map Mobile Converter also provides the ability to detect changes and generate changeset files that can be consumed by the "Incremental File Updates" capability of Bentley Map Mobile, ensuring the mobile workforce has up-to-date asset data. Please refer to the "Functional Matrix" section for more information.

Are there Bentley Map Mobile Converter limitations that would require the use of the Bentley Map Mobile Publisher application?
